چکیده

Damage monitoring of conductive glass fiber/epoxy laminated composites is performed by observing the electro-fracture response under dynamic mixed-mode fracture loading. A three-dimensional network generated in these embedding carbon nanotubes (CNTs) matrix and reinforcing short fibers (80 µm, 150 350 µm) between laminates. modified split Hopkinson pressure bar setup used to load open notch flexure (MONF) specimens. four-point probe technique coupled with a high-frequency data acquisition system employed capture electrical within process zone high speed video camera crack propagation. Due bending effect, decreasing trend resistance change observed before damage initiation no fibers. However, fiber reinforced show minimal due less amount CNTs them moreover did not their position during elastic deformation. After initiation, rate increase almost five times higher containing 80 µm than those µm.

‌Progressive Damage Analysis of Laminated Composites using Continuum Damage Mechanics

In this paper, progressive damage and global failure of composite laminates under quasi-static, monotonic loading are investigated using 3D continuum damage mechanics. For this purpose, a finite element program has been developed using an eight-node 2D layered element including layer-wise plate theory. Damage analysis of a single orthotropic layer under various uniform in-plane and transverse l...

Review of Damage Tolerant Analysis of Laminated Composites

With advanced composites increasing replacing traditional metallic materials, the material inhomogeneity and inherent anisotropy of such materials lead to not only new attributes for aerospace structures, but also introduce new technology to damage tolerant design and analysis. The deleterious effects of changes in material properties and initiation and growth of structural damage must be addre...

A Damage Model for the Simulation of Delamination in Advanced Composites under Variable-Mode Loading

A thermodynamically consistent damage model is proposed for the simulation of progressive delamination in composite materials under variable-mode ratio. The model is formulated in the context of Damage Mechanics. A novel constitutive equation is developed to model the initiation and propagation of delamination. A delamination initiation criterion is proposed to assure that the formulation can a...

Mode I Failure of Laminated Polymeric Composites

A mechanical model for the prediction of mode I delamination failure of a laminated double cantilever beam (DCB) type specimen is presented. The volume of material ahead of the crack tip that experiences high stresses due to the presence of the crack tip was replaced by a nonlinear elastic spring foundation. The volume undergoing global deformation due to the external loading was replaced by a ...

Monitoring Damage Propagation in Glass Fiber Composites Using Carbon Nanofibers

In this work, we report the potential use of novel carbon nanofibers (CNFs), dispersed during fabrication of glass fiber composites to monitor damage propagation under static loading. The use of CNFs enables a transformation of the typically non-conductive glass fiber composites into new fiber composites with appreciable electrical conductivity. The percolation limit of CNFs/epoxy nanocomposite...
